Enzesfelder Metallwerke AG, Enzesfeld

1905 A. Keller establishes a company at our present location, producing cast and rolled as well all types of metallic products.
1908 The company is re-formed as a public limited company (PLC).
1. Weltkrieg Expands to 11,000 employees but totally collapses after the War.
1922 Re-named as Enzesfelder Metallwerke AG.
1939 Purchase of 85% of shares by the company, Gebr. Böhler. Increase in production establishes the firm as one of the biggest producers of light metals in Europe (17,000 employees).
1944 Production largely destroyed due to an explosion and resultant flooding.
1945 - 1955 Managed by USIA.

Carowerk GmbH, Wien

1920 - 1930 Foundation of the "Caro Ges.m.b.H." tube mill.
Georg Bühler develops a process for a rational production of pre-material for diverse slide bearing materials in the form of thin-walled bronze tubes, with optimum uniformity, homogeneity and processing ability.
1926 Based on this process, "Carobronze", the precursor of today’s alloy is produced. Among other things, the material has been, and will continue to be used, for slide bearings in high performance areas.
Carobronze still stands out among the alloys suitable for slide bearings, and it is therefore a key feature of our company.
1928 Registration of the term "Caro" as a trade mark.

Enzesfeld-Caro Metallwerke AG

1961 The new company Enzesfeld - Caro Metallwerke AG is established as a result of the merger of Enzesfelder Metallwerke AG and Carowerk Metallwerke GmbH. 60% ownership by Steyr Daimler Puch, and 40% by Böhler.
1980 AUSTRIA METALL AG takes over 95%, OIAG takes over 5% (Vereinigte Metallwerke Ranshofen-Berndorf)
1981 Closure of the rolling mill and expansion of the central foundry.
1989 Privatisation of the Austrian non-ferrous metal Industry through a management-buy-out procedure. Merger with buntmetall amstetten. The new holding AUSTRIA BUNTMETALL becomes the most important Austrian non-ferrous metal group.
1990 - 1999 Extensive investments in the areas of casting and mechanical production. Enlargement of the company’s spectrum through the addition of railway engineering services.
1999 Wieland AG secures a majority of the Austria Buntmetall Group. The company becomes part of the Wieland Group.
2000 - 2003 Cooperation with the leading bearing manufacturer make a far-reaching expansion of the production of cages for roller bearings possible. About 100 new jobs are created and an investment of 14 million € is necessary.
2004 Full operation of cage production.
2005 100 years anniversary.
2006

Cessation of pure copper production at the site.
Commissioning of a WSS plant for manufacturing cage covers.
2007 - 2008
Extensive investment in the foundry, renewal of equipment and extension into the manufacture of high quality special copper alloys.
2008 Commissioning of specially developed milling machines for the production of roller bearing cages.
2009 Became the main supplier to Deutsche Bahn (German Railways) with their AUSTROROLL points roller equipment.
2009 - 2010 Merger of Enzesfeld-Caro Metallwerke AG with buntmetall amstetten GmbH. The new company name is buntmetall amstetten GmbH, with its headquarters in Amstetten.
